SOLD OUT Titles: Maggie Steber -- The Secret Garden of Lily LaPalma
Maggie Steber on The Secret Garden of Lily LaPalma:
"This work has been made over the years and represents a dark side of things I began to explore or re-explore.These are the kinds of photographs I made when I first began taking pictures. Lately I've been wanting to bust out, to do something that I want to do, no matter what anyone thinks of it. I am exploring the darker nature of things, based on things I've seen and experienced. I love mystery and grew up on grade B horror films and pulp fiction, science fiction, psychological thrillers, and my wild imagination.
The Secret Garden of Lily LaPalma is my secret garden, where I can plant seeds and see what grows. I feel liberated and am using this work to reinvent myself at this time in my career but also just letting a part of me loose. I don't try to make things fancy and most often the photos I take are spur of the moment things I set up with friends or colleagues. I don't want the photographs to be perfect in any way because real life isn't perfect and I like the imperfection of these spontaneous moments."
Lily LaPalma is my alter ego. She is adventurous, fearless, and mysterious and she revels in it. Her secret garden is filled with ideas that grow unfettered by trends or others' opinions. It is not for them, it is for her and it is for me."
