Ami Vitale is a Nikon Ambassador and a National Geographic photographer, who is passionate about the need for humans to learn to peacefully co-exist with animals. "When we are seen as part of the landscape and part of nature, then saving nature is really about saving ourselves," she says. "When it is in the enlightened self interest of local people to save nature then it will last. When we can showcase it to the world through photography, then it has a chance to spread and scale."  

ALL profits from this book will go to support one of Ami's favorite groups, a new community-based and operated conservation organization in northern Kenya, which is part of a growing grassroots movement of community-driven conservation. The funds will be administered by Conservation International, and all the money we raise from the book sales will be matched by a private donor, so your purchase will have twice the impact. 

"The natural world is under threat as never before," writes Ami.  "We are witnessing extinction right now on our watch. Poaching is not slowing down, and it’s entirely possible, even likely, that if the current trajectory of killing continues, elephants, rhinos, along with a host of lesser known plains animals, will be functionally extinct in our lifetime. 

"Population growth, consumerism, and abject poverty with no way out all conspire to ensure that nature is exploited for low and short term gains with little thought to sustainability.  In a world of seven billion people, we must see ourselves as part of the landscape. Our fate is linked to the fate of animals. Saving nature is really about saving ourselves.  Can we reimagine a world where all life is important? Love alone is not enough.  This is a story about us, our HOME, our future."
